What is ASTM A182?
ASTM A182 is the material specification for forged or rolled stainless and low-alloy steel piping components — flanges, forged fittings, valves and parts for high-temperature service. Grades are prefixed F (F316L, F51, F11). A182 sets chemistry, heat treatment and mechanical properties; the flange's dimensions come from a separate standard such as ASME B16.5 or ASME B16.47. ASME adopts it as SA-182.

ASTM A182 vs A105 vs A350 vs B564
All four are forging specifications used for flanges. The service temperature and alloy decide which one applies.
| Specification | Material | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| ASTM A182 | Stainless, duplex, Cr-Mo | Corrosive and high-temperature service |
| ASTM A105 | Carbon steel | Ambient and elevated-temperature carbon steel lines |
| ASTM A350 | Carbon and low-alloy steel, impact tested | Low-temperature service (e.g. LF2 at −46 °C) |
| ASTM B564 | Nickel alloys | Inconel 625, Incoloy 825, Monel 400, C276 flanges |

What to know before ordering to ASTM A182
The points that decide whether material to ASTM A182 is accepted at inspection.
- The "F" number is the forging grade: F51 is S31803 and F60 is S32205 (2205 duplex), F53 is 2507 super duplex.
- Flange dimensions follow ASME B16.5 or B16.47; A182 sets the material.
- Forged socket-weld and threaded fittings are also ordered to A182.

How ASTM A182 fits into an order
A purchase order line is only complete when it names the material standard, the dimensional standard and the inspection document. Miss one and the mill, the inspector and the buyer can each read the order differently.
ASTM A182 — questions buyers ask
What is ASTM A182?
ASTM A182 is the material specification for forged or rolled stainless and low-alloy steel piping components — flanges, forged fittings, valves and parts for high-temperature service. Grades are prefixed F (F316L, F51, F11). A182 sets chemistry, heat treatment and mechanical properties; the flange's dimensions come from a separate standard such as ASME B16.5 or ASME B16.47. ASME adopts it as SA-182.
Is ASTM A182 a flange standard?
It is a material standard. A182 sets chemistry, heat treatment and properties of the forging; the flange dimensions and pressure class come from ASME B16.5 (½"–24"), B16.47 (26"–60") or a drawing. A complete order names both.
Which A182 grade is duplex 2205?
F51 is UNS S31803 and F60 is UNS S32205. Many mills dual-certify 2205 forgings to both. Super duplex is F53 (S32750) and F55 (S32760).
What is the difference between A182 F316 and F316L?
F316L has a lower carbon limit, which avoids sensitisation when the flange is welded. Dual-certified F316/F316L material meets the chemistry of L and the strength of 316.
Is ASTM A182 the same as ASME SA-182?
For a given edition, yes. SA-182 is the ASME Section II adoption; pressure-equipment codes call for the SA designation.
Are A182 flanges NACE MR0175 compliant?
Not automatically. Sour-service compliance depends on grade, heat treatment and hardness. State MR0175 / ISO 15156 on the order so hardness is tested and reported.
Which grades do you supply to ASTM A182?
SS 904L, SS 304, SS 304L, SS 310 / 310S, SS 316 / 316L, SS 321, SS 347, Duplex 2205, Super Duplex 2507, Super Duplex S32760, ASTM A335 P11, ASTM A335 P22 — see the table on this page for the exact product and designation.
What is the current edition of ASTM A182?
The publisher's listing checked on 7 October 2026 shows A182/A182M-26a as the current edition. The edition that governs an order is the one named in the purchase order or design code. Full-text review of the current edition is in progress, so numerical requirements are not published on this page yet.
Do you supply certificates to this standard?
Yes. Material is supplied with mill test certificates to EN 10204 3.1 showing the standard, grade and heat number; 3.2 with third-party inspection on request.
