What to know before ordering to ASME B36.10
The points that decide whether material to ASME B36.10 is accepted at inspection.
- NPS is a nominal size: a 2" pipe has an OD of 60.3 mm.
- Schedules 40 and STD are the same up to NPS 10 but differ above it.
- Stainless pipe also uses ASME B36.19.

How ASME B36.10 fits into an order
A purchase order line is only complete when it names the material standard, the dimensional standard and the inspection document. Miss one and the mill, the inspector and the buyer can each read the order differently.

ASME B36.10 — questions buyers ask
What does ASME B36.10 cover?
Sets the sizes and wall thicknesses of welded and seamless wrought steel pipe — the schedule numbers (Sch 10, 20, 40, 80, 160) and STD, XS and XXS used for carbon and alloy steel.
Does ASME B36.10 specify the material?
No. ASME B36.10 sets dimensions; the material comes from a separate specification such as ASTM A182, A105 or B564 for flanges, or A403 and B366 for fittings. A complete order names both.
Do you supply certificates to this standard?
Yes. Material is supplied with mill test certificates to EN 10204 3.1 showing the standard, grade and heat number; 3.2 with third-party inspection on request.
