Metal weight calculator
Weight of plate, sheet, pipe and round bar in any grade we supply. Pick the grade — the calculator uses its density.
Formulas
| Plate / sheet | kg = L(m) × W(m) × t(mm) × ρ |
|---|---|
| Pipe / tube | kg/m = π × ρ × wall × (OD − wall) ÷ 1000 |
| Round bar | kg/m = π × d² × ρ ÷ 4000 |
| ρ | density in g/cm³ — from the grade you pick |
Theoretical weights. Mill tolerances make actual weights vary by a few per cent.
Weight calculation — questions
How do I calculate plate weight?
kg = length (m) × width (m) × thickness (mm) × density (g/cm³). A 2 × 1 m plate, 10 mm thick, in 316L (8.0 g/cm³) weighs 160 kg.
How do I calculate pipe weight per metre?
kg/m = π × density × wall × (OD − wall) ÷ 1000, with OD and wall in mm and density in g/cm³.
Why do nickel alloys weigh more?
Nickel alloys are denser than stainless steel — Alloy 825 is 8.14 g/cm³ and C276 is 8.89 g/cm³ against about 7.9–8.0 for stainless — so the same size weighs more.
