How to Verify Inconel 600 Pipe Fittings with PMI

Positive material identification with a handheld XRF gun confirms the alloy on the piece itself, in seconds, before it is cut or welded. Inconel 600 is most often mixed up with Incoloy 800 / 800H / 800HT — the table shows which elements tell them apart.

Handheld XRF does not measure carbon or nitrogen; those come from the mill certificate or optical emission (OES) testing. We PMI-test nickel alloys as standard and any grade on request.

Inconel 600 Pipe Fittings Price — What Decides It

Two quotes for "600 pipe fittings" can differ by 20% and both be fair. We quote 600 pipe fittings per kg for full sizes and per piece for cut sizes. These six things move the price per kg, so you can compare offers like for like.

01 · Metal priceThe alloy price sets the base.
02 · Type & sizeTees, crosses and large-bore fittings cost more than elbows and caps.
03 · Seamless or weldedSeamless fittings cost more than welded in the same size.
04 · Schedule & classHeavier walls and higher forged classes add weight and cost.
05 · Testing & documentsRadiography, IGC or a 3.2 certificate add cost.
06 · QuantityMixed lots are fine; volume lowers the unit price.

Inconel 600 Pipe Fittings Applications

Inconel 600 is specified when the cheaper grade will not survive the service but a higher alloy would be more than the job needs. These are the jobs our buyers use it for.

Inconel 600 Corrosion Resistance — Element by Element

Each alloying addition has a job. Knowing which one protects against your medium is the quickest way to judge whether 600 fits.

NiChloride SCC & caustic

Over 72% nickel makes 600 practically immune to chloride stress-corrosion cracking and very good in caustic soda.

CrOxidation

Chromium gives oxidation resistance to about 1175 °C.

HeatCarburising & nitriding

Resists carburising and nitriding atmospheres in furnaces.

LimitReducing acids

Not a first choice for sulphuric or hydrochloric acid — see 825 or C276.

How your 600 pipe fittings order runs

  1. 01Enquiry review — we confirm size, standard edition and documents against your MR or drawing.
  2. 02Heat selection & PMI — the mill certificate is checked and material is PMI-tested before processing.
  3. 03Processing — cutting, machining or bevelling to your specification, with heat numbers marked.
  4. 04Inspection — your third-party inspector witnesses, or we share photos and test reports.
  5. 05Packing & dispatch — seaworthy packing from Nhava Sheva (JNPT), Mumbai, FOB or CIF, documents sent before the vessel sails.

Welding & Fabricating Inconel 600 Pipe Fittings

Inconel 600 welds by all common arc processes. A few points our buyers ask about:

Matching fillerERNiCr-3 (AWS A5.14)
Over-alloyed fillerENiCrFe-3 electrode
PreheatNot required; keep interpass temperature low
CuttingThermal or abrasive cutting; grind off heat-tinted edges before welding

Follow your approved WPS; this is general guidance. See also 600 fittings and 600 flanges for the matching pipe-system parts.

Inconel 600 pipe fittings — questions buyers ask

Is Inconel 600 the same as Alloy 600?

Yes. Alloy 600, UNS N06600, W.Nr 2.4816 all refer to the same material, and pipe fittings is ordered to ASTM B366 WPNCI whichever name is on the enquiry.

Which standard covers Inconel 600 buttweld fittings?

ASTM B366 WPNCI is the material specification; dimensions follow ASME B16.9 (and MSS SP-43 for light-wall fittings). Forged socket-weld and threaded fittings are made from ASTM B564 material to ASME B16.11.

What is the difference between Inconel 600 WP-S and WP-W fittings?

Seamless fittings are made from seamless pipe or bar; welded fittings are formed from plate or welded pipe. State which you need and the weld examination required.

Can Inconel 600 fittings be welded to carbon steel?

Yes — a nickel-base filler such as ERNiCr-3 (or ERNiCrMo-3) is used when joining it to carbon steel.

Inconel 600 or Inconel 625 — which should I choose?

Inconel 600 is chosen for high-temperature oxidation, caustic and nuclear service. Inconel 625 is the step up when you need more pitting resistance or strength. See the comparison table on this page, or ask us with your process conditions.
