How to order Alloy 825 sheet and plate to ASTM B424: a buyer’s checklist
Alloy 825 flat products are ordered to ASTM B424 (ASME SB-424), UNS N08825, normally in the annealed condition. Material under 3/16" (4.76 mm) is sheet or strip; 3/16" and thicker is plate. Minimum mechanical requirements are set by B424 for the annealed condition (under technical review for TDS). Weight in kg = length (m) × width (m) × thickness (mm) × 8.14.

Sheet is typically supplied in 1000/1219/1250/1500 mm widths and 2000/2438/2500/3000 mm lengths; plate in widths to 2000 mm or more and lengths to 6000 mm or more, depending on thickness and mill. Calculating weight
Alloy 825 has a density of 8.14 g/cm³, a little heavier than stainless steel. For flat products:
kg = L (m) × W (m) × t (mm) × 8.14
A 2000 × 1000 × 10 mm plate therefore weighs 2 × 1 × 10 × 8.14 = 162.8 kg. Use the calculator on the product pages to check a whole list.
What to put on the purchase order
- ASTM B424 / ASME SB-424, UNS N08825
- Product: sheet, strip or plate; condition: annealed
- Thickness, width, length and quantity (pieces and kg)
- Finish for sheet (e.g. 2B) and whether plate is to be cut
- Certificate: EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2, plus any extra tests (IGC, UT)
- NACE MR0175 compliance if the equipment is in sour service
Common mistakes
- Ordering "Inconel 825 plate" without the standard — you may receive material certified only to a trade name.
- Forgetting that cut plates carry the heat number of the parent plate: ask for marking on every piece.
- Assuming stainless-steel tolerances: nickel-alloy tolerances come from B906, not A480.
