What to know before ordering to ASTM B625
The points that decide whether material to ASTM B625 is accepted at inspection.
- If an older specification or drawing names B625 for 904L, confirm the edition with your client before ordering.
- Specify which standard your design code or client specification calls for.
- 904L pipe is ASTM A312; 904L tube is A213 or A269.
How ASTM B625 fits into an order
A purchase order line is only complete when it names the material standard, the dimensional standard and the inspection document. Miss one and the mill, the inspector and the buyer can each read the order differently.

ASTM B625 — questions buyers ask
What does ASTM B625 cover?
Covers super-austenitic plate, sheet and strip such as UNS N08925, N08926, N08031 and R20033. Editions up to B625-04 also listed UNS N08904 (904L); current editions do not, and 904L flat products are ordered to ASTM A240 / ASME SA-240.
What is the difference between ASTM B625 and ASME SB-625?
ASME SB-625 is the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (Section II) adoption of ASTM B625. The technical requirements are usually identical to a specific ASTM edition; pressure-equipment codes call for the ASME designation, and most mill certificates show both.
Do you supply certificates to this standard?
Yes. Material is supplied with mill test certificates to EN 10204 3.1 showing the standard, grade and heat number; 3.2 with third-party inspection on request.
